July 2, 2010 - There was a fire next door to Pavati Marine.

Maybe the largest fire ever in White City, Oregon. Two lumber mills burnt to the ground. If it hadn't been for the Local Fire District 3 and about 5 other local fire districts, Pavati Marine would have suffered catastrophic damage. As it turned out, we did suffer over $200k in smoke and fire damage. This happened on a Friday afternoon and we were back to work on Monday.

The fire fighters kept water on our building for over 12 hours until they got the mill fire under control.

 

Me and my dad were scrambling to move boats away from the north side of the building where the fire was. We both suffered smoke damage to our lungs. Next time, we'll let'em burn.

A pretty good shot at the size of the flames. The electricity went off so we couldn't shut the doors. Smoke came into the shop freely which caused the most damage to our plant.

After the fire, everything had to be wiped down by hand. All the machines, computers, walls, ceilings, light fixtures, beams, toilets, and even sinks had to be wiped down to get the terrible smoke stinch to where we could bear being in the shop. Offices also had to be wiped down. We are now in process of replacing the heater/airconditioners, the ductwork, and carpets. All has to be torn out and replaced to get the smoke smell out.

This building is 50,000 square feet. To give you a perspective, that's over an acre in size just for the ceiling. All the walls and beams had to be washed too. This took over a month and they are still working.

Our neighbors

We are very sorry about our neighbors mills. Many people lost their jobs and two lost their busineses. Fortunately, no one was hurt.
